Two Specials Cap Off New Egypt Season
New Egypt, NJ (Sept. 24) -- With the championship point battles in the books, New Egypt Speedway is gearing up for two special events that will complete its successful second season as a clay-surfaced facility.
On Saturday night, October 2, the popular URC Sprint cars will wing their way around the 4/10ths mile oval, in the club's final appearance of 1999. Modifieds and Sportsman complete the racing card which will see first flag fly at 5 p.m.
The Central Jersey speedway will be dark on October 9, and then will return with a promotion for the memory books on Saturday, October 16, with its much-anticipated Legends of the Fall season finale.
The very special program will honor the sport's former driving legends, including Frankie Schneider, Gil Hearne, Sammy Beavers, Tony Siscone, Billy Osmun and John Blewett Jr., among many other of the area's past stock car stars. All former track champs who are retired from active competition are invited to participate in the day-long Legends of the Fall tribute, which will feature interview and autograph sessions and an exhibition of beautifully restored race cars by the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club.
The event also features a big tripleheader bill of up-to-the-minute racing action, with a 50-lapper for the big block Modifieds paying a cool $5,000 to win; Sportsman will race 40 laps for a $2,000 top prize, and the winner of the Street Stock 30-lap feature will collect $1,000. Mod and Sportsman competitors can run any brand 13x92-inch tire; Sportsman must have steel wheels. New Egypt engine rules apply, and NES/DIRT/Dual Track body rules with no high sail panels for Mod and Sportsman cars. The same rules apply on October 2. Street Stocks will race under NES rules and must have a 4412 Holley or any OEM two-barrel carburetor, 10-inch wheels and any brand 92-inch max. tires.
The not-to-be-missed October 16 Legends of the Fall special has a 2 p.m. starting time and a Sunday raindate. Adult admission is $18, children 7-12 are $6, and kids 6 and under will be admitted free. Call the speedway office at (609) 758-1900 for further information.
