Ernesto Spoils Championship Weekend at McKean County for ASCS Patriots
TULSA, Okla (September 2, 2006) -- Unfortunately, the weather forecasters were dead on with their forecast for Saturday September 2, as they predicted 100% chance of rain in Smethport, Pa, putting an end to Championship Night for the Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Sprint Group at McKean County Raceway. For the second time this year, heavy rains wiped out a promising show at the 1/3-mile speedway in Northern Pennsylvania.J
At the beginning of this year, three races were scheduled to run at the McKean County Fairgrounds, with only one getting in on July 8.J
"It's a tough break for Chris Shuttleworth (who won in July), and guys like Jared Zimbardi and Gary Troutman that have looked forward to turning around their luck," noted ASCS Patriot Director Rich Vleck.
MCR Promoter Ken Leet did not rule out the possibility of a make-up race, but with it being so late in the year, it is not a sure thing that this event will be able to be run.
The ASCS Patriot teams now turn their eyes to the Challenge season, as the car counts, race purse and overall intensity pick up.
Next Saturday will be the 8th Annual Bully Hill Vineyards Fall Sprint Nationals Presented by SP Wilson, Coca-Cola and Bath RV Outlet. This $4,000-to-win 35-lap Event will feature 70+ race cars complete with time trials and 150 laps of sprint car racing. Race time for this event is slated for 5:00 p.m., with pit gates opening at 2:00 p.m. at the Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY.
Also next Saturday, September 9, will be the Slocum Milk Hauling All-Star Dash for Cash Event. Because both qualifying events for the ASCS Patriots could not be run, so the two representatives will be selected at the track. Those eligible for the event will be those that have won a PSG A-Main this season that is not already qualified for the 8-lap dash, including Bryan Howland, Rick Wilson, Rich Swarthout, Chris Shuttleworth and Chris Muhleisen.
