Budds Creek, Md., -- Race fans were in for a special treat this past Saturday night, July 7th at Potomac Speedway. Along with the regular show, except for the Bell Motor Company Late Models, the URC Sprints took the track for some fast-paced racing action.

Matt Gerber led the way at the start of the 25-lap URC feature, opening up a half straight-a-way lead by lap three. By lap 10, second place runner Pete Green had caught Gerber and made a bid for the lead as they exited turn two. He easily made the pass and went on to take the checkered flag. Gerber finished second followed by Bill Case in third, Kramer Williamson in fourth, and Doug Emory in fifth.

Defending Budweiser Super Late Model Points Champion George Moreland of Waldorf, Md., visited victory lane for the second time this year. Current points leader Deane Guy, who was forced to go to a back-up car after experiencing problems after the heat race. Guy drove the 02L of Louie Littlepage, putting him to the rear of the field. He worked his way up from his 12th place starting position to finish 6th, giving him the M.A.R.F. Hard Charger of the Race award winner.

Ronald Cusic of Avenue, Md., came from a 12th place starting position to make it two wins in-a-row in the Coors Light Pure-Street Stocks. Scotty Nelson of Mechanicsville, Md., picked up his fourth win of the season in the Potomac Speedway Four-Cylinders. Defending Cliff's Heating and Air Conditioning Enduro/Hobby Stock Points Champion Joe Adams of Clements, Md., took the checkered flag for the fifth time this year. Dale Moore, Jr., of Mechanicsville, Md., got his fourth win of the season in the Chesapeake Web Design Bombers.

Coors Light Pure-Street Stock driver Dan Dotson sponsored the children's bike giveaway. Eleven-year-old Jennifer Booth of Brandywine, Md., was the lucky bike winner.

Tommy Wagner, Jr., started on the pole of the 25-lap Budweiser Super Late Model feature and led the way as the green flag waved. Unfortunately for Wagner, he jumped the start by starting the feature before he reached the starting cone. Wagner was then scored at the tail end of the lead lap even though he was out in front of the field. George Moreland then took over the lead with Darryl Hills following behind in second. The first of four cautions came out on lap 12 for debris on the track. Moreland easily led the way on the restart. He went on to take the checkered flag unchallenged for the lead. He finished with about a five-to-six car length lead over Hills. Rick Jones finished third followed by Ernie Jones in fourth and Bill Timme in fifth. Wagner and Deane Guy won the heats.

In the 15-lap Coors Light Pure-Street Stock feature, Billy Lackey started from the pole and led the way as the green flag waved. Second-place runner Joe Scaggs made a bid for the top position on lap four, but Lackey held him off. Scaggs challenged again on lap seven an then on lap nine but wasn't able to make the pass. A caution came out on lap nine when Tommy Hitt was spun around in turn four. On the restart, Lackey led the way. Scaggs again challenged for the lead with Bill Tippett trying to take over the second-place position. Lackey and Scaggs ran side-by-side into turns three and four with Lackey getting the advantage off four. They continued to battle in turns one and two with Lackey slowing down. Scaggs and third-place runner Ronald Cusic both got around Lackey. Scaggs went on to lead lap 10 with the caution flag waving just after that as Lackey's car came to rest in turn one with a flat tire. On the restart, Cusic made a bid for the lead on the outside groove in turns one and two. He was able to make the pass to become the new leader as they exited turn two. Once Cusic took over, he never looked back. He went on to take the checkered flag for his 45th career win, unchallenged for the lead. He finished with about a three-to-four car length advantage over Scaggs. Mike Latham finished third followed by Tippett in fourth, and Jimmy Jesmer in fifth. Lackey and Scaggs won the heats.

Bob Tester, Jr., and Scotty Nelson battled for the lead at the drop of the green flag of the 12-lap Potomac Speedway Four-Cylinder event. Nelson got the position as they exited turn two, bringing the field around to complete lap one. Chappy Knaack passed Tester for second on lap six and then set his sights on Nelson. Knaack made a bid for the lead as they exited turn four on lap seven, but Nelson held him off. He tried again on lap nine as they exited turn four. Knaack beat Nelson back to the start-finish line to lead lap nine. They continued to battle side-by-side into turns one and two with Nelson retaking the lead on the backstretch. Knaack made one last bid for the lead on the last lap in turns one and two. They battled side-by-side the whole circuit around with Nelson beating Knaack to the checkered flag by just a half-car length. Scotty Scott finished third followed by Tester in fourth and Calvin Wright in fifth. Knaack won the heat.

Wayne Suite led the way to complete lap one of the 15-lap Cliff's Heating and Air Conditioning feature. As Suite led, Joe Adams and Ray Weaver battled for second. Adams was able to take the position on lap two. Suite got loose in turn two, opening the door for Adams. Adams was able to make the pass but then shot up the track in turns three and four. Suite was able to repass Adams for the lead. Two laps later, Suite slowed in turn two, bringing out the caution flag. Adams then took over the lead. On the restart, Weaver stayed glued to Adams rear bumper. As Adams led, Ben Bowie then challenged Weaver for second. The two continued to battle for the next few laps. Adams went on to take the checkered flag, finishing with about a four-to-five car length advantage. Weaver was able to beat Bowie back to the start-finish line to finish second. Bowie finished third followed by John Burch in fourth, and Marty Page in fifth. John Latham and Burch won the heats.

In the 10-lap Chesapeake Web Design Bomber feature Dale Moore, Jr., started on the pole and led the way as the green flag waved. Moore went on to lead all 10 laps, unchallenged for the lead.
