ASCS Rebels Kick Off 2009 Sprint Car Season at East Bay! Deep South Double Follows

TULSA, Okla. (January 20, 2009) -- The 2009 Sprint Car racing season officially fires to life next weekend when the American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region takes to the 1/3-mile East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL, on January 29-31 to kick off the track's 33rd Annual Winter Nationals.

The following weekend, action continues for the ASCS Rebel Region with Deep South Speedway's annual Mardi Gras Bash in Loxley, AL, on February 7 and 8.

After a Wednesday night, January 28, practice session from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at East Bay Raceway Park, the ASCS Rebel Region officially lifts the lid on the 2009 North American Sprint Car racing season with the first of three action-packed nights of racing, set to culminate with the $10,000 to win Ronald Laney Memorial on Saturday night, January 31.

Louisiana's Jason Johnson set the tone for a successful 2008 season by becoming the eighth different winner in event history by topping a field of 56 entries. Only Gary Wright has captured East Bay's "King of the 360's" honors twice, with wins in 1999 and 2007.

Other past "King of the 360's" Nationals winners at East Bay include Terry McCarl (2006), Chad Kemenah (2005), Sport Allen (2003), Jason Sides (2002), Jeff Shepard (2001) and Ronald Laney (2000).

Once East Bay action is in the books, the ASCS Rebels move up the coast and over to Loxley, Alabama's high-banked, 4/10-mile Deep South Speedway red clay oval for the Mardi Gras Bash.

This year's Mardi Gras Bash is a two-night stand, with action on both Saturday and Sunday, February 7 and 8. Defending ASCS Rebel Region champion Kenny Adams topped last year's Mardi Gras Bash at Deep South Speedway, with Marshall Skinner the 2007 event winner.

East Bay Raceway Park is located off I-75 Exit 250, then two miles west, then 1.2 miles north on US 41, then right 1.3 miles on Old US 41 to Burts Road. For more information, contact the track at 813-677-7223.

Deep South Speedway is located in Loxley, AL, off I-10 Exit 44, then four miles north on SR 59, then 3/4-miles west. For more information contact the track at 251-964-6953.

The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen different Regions throughout the nation.
