Gohn Gains ASCS Rebel Win at Ocala
OCALA, Fla. (April 11, 2008) -- Bryn Gohn reached victory lane in Friday night's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region feature event as Sprint Cars took to the clay at Ocala Speedway for the first time in over a decade.
Gohn took advantage of Matt Tiffany's late misfortune and then outdueled Danny Martin, Jr., over the final two laps to snare his second career ASCS Regional win aboard Kenny Adams' Don Ott-powered B&W Trucking/Goodson Farms No. 4b Shaw.
Slated to start the feature from the front row outside, Gohn originally expected stepfather Kenny Adams to start on the pole. But when Adams required a second push before the main event, it was Tiffany moving up to the pole position while the current series point leader started at the tail.
Gohn gunned into the early lead, pacing the opening eleven circuits before Tiffany took command. Tiffany led the way until the 23rd lap when his right rear tire shredded and sent him into wall.
Gohn led the way on the restart, but Martin battled into the lead and held the point as the white flag flew. Gohn battled back in the final lap to take the win though, with Martin settling for runner-up honors.
Defending series champion T.J. Winegardner claimed the show position, while Michael Miller raced from 16th to snare fourth. Adams rallied from the tail of the field to round out the top five.
Sport Allen was sixth, with Matt Linder, 17th-starter Shane Kreidler, Samantha Taylor and Danny Jones completing the top ten.
Adams, Tyler Godwin and Allen topped heat race action, with Miller winning the "B" Main.
