Martin Wrangles ASCS Rebel Win on Last Lap at East Bay

TAMPA, Fla. (April 12, 2008) -- It was quality over quantity for Danny Martin, Jr., in Saturday night's American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region main event at East Bay Raceway Park.

While "The Hammer" led only one round of the 25-lap main event, it was the one that mattered most as the 22-year-old snared his second career ASCS Regional triumph by virtue of a dramatic last lap pass of current series points leader Kenny Adams.

Adams, who swept a two-night series double at East Bay Raceway Park to close out the 2007 season, took the lead at the outset of the feature event and appeared to be on his way to a second ASCS Rebel Region win of the year.

Martin's heroics dictated otherwise, as he raced to the front of the final round in the Motorheads-powered Martin Structures No. 00 Shaw chassis, with Adams settling for runner-up honors. Matt Tiffany claimed the show position, with defending series champion T.J. Winegardner charging from 18th to finish fourth. Michael Miller rounded out the top five.

Reigning ASCS Southern Tour champion Brian Smith raced from 16th to sixth, with Brian Maddox, Matt Linder, Red Stauffer and Frank Beck III completing the top ten.

Greg Leonard, Samantha Taylor and Tyler Godwin each scored heat race wins, with Frank Carlsson winning the "B" Main.
