Taylor Thunders to ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Title

GILLETTE, Wyo. (September 17, 2005) -- Gary Taylor captured the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region 2005 championship in style by completing a sweep of the series' weekend double by topping Saturday night's 25-lap feature at Gillette Thunder Speedway.

Entering the night just two points behind Eric Miller in the championship points duel, Taylor assumed the lead on the seventh round en route to his third series victory of the season aboard Harry and Louise Conklin's Wesmar-powered Hi-Strength Bolt/R&L Enterprises No. 5d Eagle.

Outside front row starter Ned Powers gunned into the early lead and paced the opening six rounds before spinning out of contention. After starting sixth, Taylor had worked his way up to second and took over the lead upon Powers' miscue.

There was no stopping Taylor the rest of the way, as he took the checkered flag in front of Mason Hill, Phil Dietz, 17th-starter Brent Kronfuss and Jake Pierson.

Jeremy McCune crossed the stripe sixth, with Willy Hernandez, Josh Ostermiller, Paxton Lambrecht and Cyrus Perme completing the top ten.

Taylor claimed the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region title by twenty markers over Miller, who settled for eleventh after a lap 20 spin while running seventh.

McCune, Dietz, Powers and Miller topped heat race action, with Kronfuss winning the 12-lap "B" Main.
