Miller Conquers Colby ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Foes

COLBY, Kan. (September 5, 2004) - Randi Miller put the wraps on a busy Labor Day weekend of racing action for the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region by scoring a wire-to-wire victory in Sunday night's 25-lap feature at Thomas County Speedway.

Starting the feature from the pole position, Miller jumped into the early lead aboard Mac White's Carbone-powered Two Dot Tech No. 2d Maxim with fellow front row starter Mark Walinder applying early pressure before Steven King took over second.

As the leaders raced through lapped traffic, King pressed Miller for the point until the caution flew for C.J. Johnson, who came to a halt with a cut tire.

Taking advantage of a clear track, Miller raced to the checkered flag to notch his sixth series triumph of the season and second of the weekend, with King settling for the runner-up slot. Jason Martin advanced from ninth to claim the show position, with Jace Pennetta and Derek Drown rounding out the top five.

Walinder crossed the stripe in sixth, with Johnson, Mike Peters, Nick Haygood and Scott Box completing the top ten.

Miller, Walinder, King and Pennetta each claimed heat race victories, with current series point leader Keith Rauch topping the B Main. With a 13th place finish in the feature, Rauch extended his point lead to 22 markers over Eric Miller, who exited early with engine problems.
