Kaeding Cops ASCS Rocky Mountain Region Win at Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 21, 2007) -- California's Bud Kaeding took advantage of lapped traffic to add an American Sprint Car Series feature win to his resume by topping Saturday night's 25-lap ASCS Rocky Mountain Region main event at Dodge City Raceway Park.

While Kaeding started the feature event in the third position while filling in for the injured Adam Main, it was polesitter Brad Best gunning into the lead at the outset.

Best paced the field for 23 laps with Kaeding in striking distance throughout before the Tulsa racer ran afoul of a lapped car on the 24th lap, opening the door for Kaeding.

Kaeding took quick advantage and led the final two laps to post the win aboard Main's H.A.M. Construction No. 35a entry, with Best settling for runner-up honors in the AMR Racing No. 35.

Derek Drown claimed the show position, with Texas shoe Justin Melton in fourth. The top four finishers locked themselves into Sunday night's feature event.

Current ASCS Rocky Mountain Region points leader C.J. Johnson rounded out the top five, with Patrick Bourke, Nick Haygood, Troy Douglas, Bob Schaeffer and Chad Corken completing the top ten.

Michael Woodruff, Melton and Drown topped heat race action for the 26-car field, with 18-year-old Corken winning the "B" Main.
