Powers to the Front in ASCS Rocky Mountain Sheridan

SHERIDAN, Wy. (July 11, 2004) - Ned Powers made a late charge to put the caps on a three-night American Sprint Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region weekend by winning Sunday night's 25-lap feature at Sheridan Speedway.

Powers lurked in fifth position until late in the race when he found the fast line around the bottom of the track and made his charge to the front, racing past leader Randi Miller on the 23rd round to score his first series win.

Miller settled for second, with Nick Haygood, C.J. Johnson and Josh Ostermiller rounding out the top five. Completing the top ten were Mason Hill, 17th-starter Joe McCarthy, Geoff Dodge, Phil Dietz and John Jacob.

Jake Pierson brought out the race's only red flag when he crashed on lap 10. He was uninjured.

Current series point leader Keith Rauch utilized a provisional starting position to compete in the main event and raced from 21st to eleventh.

Hill, Haygood, T.J. Thorne and Ostermiller topped heat race action, with McCarthy winning the B Main.
