Bender Late Model Memorial
Highlights August 11 Program

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Selinsgrove Speedway will present the 15th edition of the Bob Bender Memorial for Late Models this Saturday, August 11 beginning at 7 p.m. The Late Models will be joined by the Sprint Cars and Pro Stocks.

The Bender Memorial is a tribute race in memory of the popular car owner and driver who competed at the speedway during the late 1960's and 70's. In 1972, while driving his trademark orange No. 17, Bender was named Most Popular Driver at both Selinsgrove and Williams Grove Speedways.

Bender, who succumbed to cancer, ended his racing career with 15 wins at Selinsgrove Speedway.

For this weekend's race, the Late Model drivers will compete in a 25-lap feature paying $1,200 to win and $125 to start the race. All 24 starting spots have been increased for this annual event.

Following on the heels of the successful Kids Night promotion, Selinsgrove officials announced adult general admission for this special show on August 11 will be just $7.00. Track gates open at 5 p.m.

Previous winners of the race include Bobby Croop (1987, 88, 96 and co-winner in 97), Lanny Lyons (1989), Steve Campbell (1990, 91), Richie Jensen (1992, 93), Dave Protsko (1994, 95), Jim Yoder (co-winner in 1997), Travis Ayres (1998), Jeff Smith (1999) and defending winner Scott Haus.

Late Model racing at Selinsgrove Speedway this season has been competitive. The divisional point standings are led by former seven-time champion Bobby Croop of Nescopeck, who has two feature wins to date.

Other winners this season include Dale Kerstetter of Liverpool (7 wins), Dan Stone of Thompson (2), Jim Yoder of Middleburg (2), Jeff Rine of Danville (3), Scott Haus of Hamburg (1) and Chris Shuey of Orefield (1).

The Late Models will have the opportunity to race for $1,200 to win again on Saturday, August 25 in a program sponsored by Penn-Selin Air. The Sprint Car feature that evening will pay $1,400 to win while the Pro Stocks will race for $250 to win.
