ASCS Sooner Region Set for Unique Double

TULSA, Okla. (June 23, 2008) -- A truly unique weekend double is in store for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region, as the series takes to a pair of different tracks separated by a mere few hundred feet on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday night, the series invades Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, TX, for the first time. Then on Saturday night, it's all the away across the parking lot to more familiar territory at Cowtown Speedway.

Doubling up the pair of tracks that are separated by perhaps even less than a stone's throw, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma's Brian McClelland tries to move a couple of steps closer to a second series title.

Overcoming an early-season tumble at Lawton, McClelland has moved atop the point charts and opened up a 53-point advantage over Graham, TX, shoe Kolt Walker, who has experienced his own share of bad luck in recent events.

McClelland and Walker are chased by a pair of drivers that are trying to make up ground after missing the series season opener, as both Washington-native Gary Taylor and Oklahoma City's Joe Wood, Jr., have been closing the gap.

Taylor, a winner of three series events, and recent Lawton winner Wood are 109 and 133 points, respectively, behind McClelland entering the weekend. A second-place finisher in the series season opener at Cowtown in April, Taylor and Wood spotted McClelland a 146-point advantage as the season fired to life.

Matt Covington rounds out the top five entering the weekend, with the balance of the top ten including Lawton's Michael Brown, Justin Melton (Flower Mound, TX), Eric Baldaccini (Keller, TX), Sherman Davis (Sand Springs, OK) and Sheldon Barksdale (Norman, OK).

The pair of Kennedale, TX, tracks are located just east of Fort Worth off I-20 Exit 442-A, then 1.7 miles southeast on Mansfield Highway, then 1.4 miles southwest on New Hope Road.

The semi-banked, 0x00bc-mile Kennedale Speedway Park dirt oval may be reached at 817-299-0287, while the high-banked, 0x00bc-mile Cowtown Speedway dirt oval can be contacted at 817-478-9952 or 817-572-0848.

The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region is slated for 20 nights of racing action at ten different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas in 2008.

The nation's most prominent Sprint Car sanctioning body with a dozen different Regions throughout the United States in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, the American Sprint Car Series' (ASCS) 17th year of activity will include approximately 250 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout 28 different states and Canada.
