Smith Lays the Smack Down on ASCS Sooners at OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (July 17, 2009) -- Nick Smith continued his mastery of American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region action atop State Fair Speedway's 3/8-mile caly oval by winning Friday night's 25-lap feature event.

Smith utilized a power move to vault from fourth into the lead on the 22nd lap en route to his 12th career ASCS Sooner Region win and his fourth in the last five Regional events contested at the famed Oklahoma City Fairgrounds oval.

Matt Covington paced the opening 21 rounds of the main event in pursuit of his first series win. But, Smith took to the top side of the track and raced into the lead in turns one and two in the final circuits to take the win aboard the Wesmar-powered Sooner Network Solutions No. 15s J&J.

Covington settled for runner-up honors, with Robert Sellers, Jamie Passmore and Foster Landon rounding out the top five.

Joe Wood, Jr., was sixth, with Brady Bacon, Andy Shouse, Martin Edwards and Chris Lloyd completing the top ten.

Landon, Smith, Don Young and Sellers topped heat race action for the 32-car field, with Michelle Decker and Ben Gregg winning the "B" Mains.
