ASCS Sooner Region Ready for Creek County
TULSA, Okla. (June 2, 2008) -- With the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region championship points battle between Kolt Walker and Brian McClelland nearly a deadlock, the series takes to the cozy confines of Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, OK, this Saturday night.
Saturday's first ASCS Sooner Region stop of the season atop the 0x00bc-mile dirt oval near Tulsa serves as a preview of Round Three of the upcoming 16th Annual ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek featuring the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, which is set for Creek County Speedway on Monday night, July 14.
A mere three points separate current points leader Kolt Walker of Graham, TX, from Broken Arrow's Brian McClelland, who has recovered from a deficit incurred from a flip that forced him to miss the feature cut at Lawton Speedway on April 12.
McClelland, the defending ASCS Sooner Region champion, has reached victory lane in two of the series three most recent events with triumphs at Boyd Raceway in Texas and then at Little Rock's I-30 Speedway this past Saturday night. McClelland topped the ASCS Sooner Region at Creek County Speedway last September.
Sherman Davis of Sand Springs, OK, enters Saturday's card ranked third in points, with Washington native Gary Taylor, a winner of three ASCS Sooner Region events thus far in 2008, and Oklahoma City's Joe Wood, Jr., rounding out the current top five.
Matt Covington of Glenpool, OK, is currently ranked sixth, with the balance of the top ten in points including Justin Melton (Flower Mound, TX), Michael Brown (Lawton, OK), Eric Baldaccini (Keller, TX) and Travis Rilat (Forney, TX).
Saturday's action at Creek County Speedway is set to go green at 7:00 p.m.
Creek County Speedway is located southwest of Tulsa off I-44 Exit 211, then 0.3 miles south on SR 33, then one mile west on SR 66. For more information, contact the track at 918-247-6675.
The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region is slated for 20 nights of racing action at ten different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas in 2008.
The nation's most prominent Sprint Car sanctioning body with a dozen different Regions throughout the United States in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, the American Sprint Car Series' (ASCS) 17th year of activity will include approximately 250 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout 28 different states and Canada.
