ASCS Sooner Region Ready for Springfield Debut

TULSA, Okla. (June 15, 2009) -- The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region breaks new ground this Saturday night with the series' first event atop Missouri's high-banked, 0x00bc-mile Springfield Raceway clay oval.

And with the initial three ASCS Sooner Region events of the season in the books, it's a pair of unrelated drivers by the name of Wood leading the way into the Springfield debut.

Veteran Norman, OK, shoe Danny Wood, a Lucas Oil ASCS National championship contender, topped the Sooner Region season opener at Creek County on April 25 and is out to a 28 point lead over Oklahoma City's Joe Wood, Jr.

Wood and Wood are chased by Tulsa's Sean McClelland, the Sooner Region champ in 2005, Matt Covington of Glenpool, OK and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma's Brady Bacon.

Dustin Morgan (Collinsville, OK) is currently sixth in Sooner points, with the balance of the top ten including J.P. Bailey (Fort Worth, TX), Sherman Davis (Sand Springs, OK), Robert Sellers (Mustang, OK) and Kyle Bellm (Nixa, MO).

Two-time and defending ASCS Sooner Region champion Brian McClelland is currently outside the top ten and looking in from 12th after stumbling out of the gates to kick off the season.

While Wood topped the season opener, Nick Smith and Gary Wright split victory honors in the Red River Shootout pitting the Sooner Region versus the Lone Star Region at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway and then Devil's Bowl Speedway near Mesquite on May 8-9.

Saturday's ASCS Sooner Region action at Springfield Raceway is slated to go green at 7:00 p.m.

Missouri's Springfield Raceway is located off I-44 Exit 75, then south to Kearney Hwy., then one mile west to Westgate, then 0.3 mile south. For more information, contact the track at 417-863-0097.

The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region is slated for a dozen nights of racing action at six different tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri in 2009.

The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint Car racing to nearly 100 different tracks throughout 25 states and Canada in 2009. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen different Regions throughout the nation.
