CRYSTAL, Mich. (May 6, 2005) -- Ohio's Mike Brecht made a daring move in the closing laps to snare victory honors in Saturday night's 25-lap season opening feature event for the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz at Crystal Motor Speedway.

Snaring the early lead was 1999 Sprints on Dirt champion Dain Naida. Naida led until the 24th round, when Brecht made his move for the point entering turn one. Naida slid off the track in his attempt to counter the move, precipitating a caution flag.

Brecht, who scored his first American Sprint Car Series feature win in last year's ASCS Southern Tour opener, took off on the restart and held on to record ASCS career win number two in front of Ken Mackey, two-time SOD champion Dustin Daggett, Brett Mann and Gary Fast.

Completing the top ten were Canadian Kyle Patrick, Nick Mulheim, Darren Long, John Gall and Gregg Dalman.

Defending series champion Tim Norman of Warsaw, IN, was the feature's first casualty and was credited with a 20th place finish.

Mackey, Fast, Naida and Patrick topped heat race action for the 37-car field, with Long and Tim Allison splitting victory honors in the twin 10-lap "B" Mains.

Bob Nash took a wild ride in the First "B" Main but emerged unscathed.
