MANN SMOKES ASCS SOD FIELD AT WINSTON; DALMAN & RUTAN TIE FOR STC TITLE!

ROTHBURY, Mich. (August 29, 2008) -- Brett Mann drove to his victory in Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt Presented by Victor Reinz action Friday at the Winston Motor Speedway. Mann started on the front row and drove away from defending champion Tim Norman and last year's winner at Winston, Ben Rutan. It was Mann's second win of the season in the Rowlee and Frollick special.

Mann and Louie Carufel started on the front row for the 25-lap main event. During the initial start Ryan Grubaugh bicycled into turn one and tumbled off the speedway to bring out the red flag. Grubaugh was uninjured.

Mann once again jumped into the lead during the restart while Carufel battled with Norman, Rutan, and Dalman for second. After battling for several laps Norman and Carufel banged wheels off the fourth corner with Norman taking the spot. Several laps later Rutan threw a big slide job on Carufel through turns three and four, sliding up the ledge on the top of the track to hold third.

Norman set sail after Mann through lapped traffic, but Mann split the lapped cars of Joe Bares and Andy Teunessen and allowed him to top Norman at the finish. Rutan, Carufel, and Irwin rounded out the top five.

While Norman chased Mann for the win the championship was up for grabs in the MAHLE/Clevite Short Track Challenge with Dalman, Rutan, and Dain Naida together on the Speedway. While Naida eventually dropped back Dalman appeared to have things in command until his car broke coming off the fourth turn on the last lap. Rutan's third place finish allowed him to tie Dalman for the first ever Short Track Challenge championship.
