SSP Open Practice Night on Tuesday, April 13th Cancelled

NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (April 8, 2004) -- Officials at the Susquehanna Speedway Park have decided to cancel the open practice/media day scheduled for Tuesday, April 13th. "We have some work to do in the turns of the track and with the impending rain forecast, we want to be sure that we have the track the best it can be for the opener on Thursday, April 15th," said SSP co-owner, Todd Fisher. "With the work to be done, we want to play it safe."

The highly anticipated 2004 season of the Susquehanna Speedway Park will begin of Thursday night, April 15 with the 410 Sprint Cars, Xtreme Enduro Cars and the Central PA Legends Cars Series. This marks the 50th season that the speedway has been in operation. The schedule features 25 weekly Thursday night events that includes a wide variety of divisions that also include the Super Sportsman Tour (1 appearance), 360/358 Open Competition events (2 appearances), PA 4 Cylinders (4 appearances), Penn Mar Vintage Club Tour (2 appearances), Street Stocks (1 appearance) and a few more divisions to be added. The 4th Annual York County Nationals will be on Thursday, August 26th with an increased purse for the 410 Sprint Cars. Race events for Sunday, July 4 and Saturday & Sunday, October 9 & 10 are currently in the works and will be announced in the near future.

Along with exciting wheel-to-wheel action, there will also be many novelty events that include a 50th Anniversary Celebration on May 20th, the Great American School Bus Race on June 10, two Metal Crunching Demolition Derbies on June 24th and September 2nd, a Faster Pastor Race featuring local ministers and pastors racing on August 5th, One-on-One Street Car Drags on June 3 and September 16, a Ford Vs. Chevy Auto Tug-O-War on September 23 and more.

Rain dates for cancelled events will be the following Sunday nights with the exception of May 2, June 27, July 4, August 1 and August 29 where other 410 Sprint Car events are already scheduled at other local speedways.

Gates for the Thursday Night Thunder race open in the pit area at 4:00 p.m. with the grandstand gates opening at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m. Race fans can expect a fast paced 2 0x8bf5r program each and every night. Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 & older) $10.00; Teens (13-17) $6.00; Children (6-12) $2.00; and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices have been reduced to $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all track license holders. A track license is $25.00 for the year.
