Haas Wins Both Features on SABKO Enterprises Night

Newberrytown, PA (May 26, 2005) - Cory Haas of York picked up his first and second 410 Sprint Car career victories in the SABKO Enterprises Twin 20 feature events at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Thursday evening earning himself $3,000. In other action, Columbia's Tom Johns won the 25-lap feature for the Xtreme Stock Cars and the Kirk Ryan of Lewisberry won the Great American School Bus race.

Cory Haas began the evening by winning the first heat race for the Sprint Cars which placed him on the pole for the first Twin 20. Haas jumped out to an early lead and held on for the final 20 circuits. Although he was never formally challenged for the lead, second and third place finishers, Alan Krimes and Blane Heimbach were within striking distance the entire race if Haas made the slightest mistake. Dave Cordier Jr. and Rich Eichelberger rounded out the top five.

On the redraw, Haas pulled the #1 pill to put him on the pole position again for the second SABKO Twin 20 featuring the four previous SSP winners that included Eric Stambaugh, Johnny Mackison Jr., Bobby Weaver and Bill Brian Jr. As in the first feature, Haas jumped out to the early lead and picked up his second career win at SSP on the same evening.

Matt Wampler led the first eight laps of the 25-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature until Eric Snoke gained the lead on lap 9. Eventual race winner Tom Johns took over the lead on the next lap until the checkered flag. David Wilhelm finished second over Tom Slanker, Charlie Pensinger and Steve Clemmons. Heats went to Sipe and Thomas, with Hughes taking the Pepsi Dash.

In the thrilling Great American School Bus race, Kirk Ryan, led every lap but not without challenges on every lap for the lead. Starting three wide and sometimes racing four wide at times, the action was non-stop. At the finish, a blanket large enough for three buses could have been thrown over the finish with Ryan winning, Rob Harkins finishing second and J.R. Rodriguez in third. Alan Witmer and Heidi Thomas rounded out the top five. After rolling his bus on lap six, Paul Fisher returned to finish sixth.

The next race at SSP will be Sunday night, May 29 with the first race of the season for the Trail Motors Super Sportsman, Silver Springs Street Stocks and the Penn Mar Vintage Club Tour. Gates open in the pit area and grandstands at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 7:00 p.m. with racing beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m. SSP will continue its Repeat Fan Discount in which there will be a $2.00 discount for each person with a ticket stub from the May 26 event only. For example, $2.00 off an Adult ticket for May 29 with and Adult ticket stub from the May 26 event. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings to be held during the season for great prizes. Last season, the grand prize was two tickets to the NASCAR race in October at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all track license holders.
