Sprint Car driver Kevin Swindell was released Tuesday from inpatient physical therapy and has moved into a nearby apartment in Louisville.

Swindell, 26, suffered two fractures in his back and a spinal cord injury in a heat race Aug. 14 at the Knoxville (Iowa) Nationals. He spent eight days at Des Moines (Iowa) Mercy Hospital before moving to the inpatient facility in Louisville.

Since his accident the four-time Chili Bowl champion and part-time NASCAR driver has undergone two successful surgeries.

Swindell’s statement

“Start back with outpatient on Monday, 5 days a week. Will be doing the standing stem like I was doing before with the electrodes on my legs trying to revive as many nerves as we can as well as continuing to try to build strength back wherever I can.

“Have to send out the biggest Thank yous to Todd Quiring and everyone at the NSL for what they were able to raise. Tony Stewart, Eldora Speedway, Roger Slack and the Tony Stewart Foundation for what they did with the 50/50, Irish Saunders and Plymouth Speedway for the Bulldog 30 races. As well as everyone with well wishes on Twitter, care packages, cards that helped cover my walls at the hospital, and those who stopped by.

“Till next time, thank you guys for the continued support.”
