Trail-Way results 2004-05-08

HANOVER, PA, 05/08/04 - For the fourth time this season Jimmy Brookens found his way into victory lane. Brookens led the final ten laps of the twenty lap race. Ron Taggart led the first nine laps but was passed by a strong Brookens who increased the distance more and more each lap.

The 600 winged micro sprint feature saw many wrecks, including a first lap crash involving Brett Schoenly, Doug Distasio, Brandon Little, Phil Meisner, Timmy Iulg, Bill Gawler and Davey Sammons getting together before crossing the green flag. All drivers with the exception of Sammons retired the night early, causing a nineteen car feature race. One lap later Sammons exited the track, calling it quits for the night.

Completing the top five were Taggart, DJ Montgomery, Tim Dietz and Timmy Dietz. Chad Criswell, Shawn Seifert, consolation race winner Kevin Bastian, Duane Harbaugh and Sean Campbell rounded out the top ten.

Heat winners were Montgomer, Jamie Umlauf and Strickler.

"I never thought it was gonna happen," said a shocked Eric Eckert who led all twenty laps of the 250 micro sprint feature. Eric went on to thank those who helped him through his micro sprint career, one of those being Trail-Way's 2003 350 sprint car champion Brad McClelland. McClelland is well known around the track not only in the 358 division but also in the 250's, where he initially started his racing career. McClelland also holds the all-time wins lead in the 250 series with seventy-two victories.

"I think they should name this place after him," Eckert replied, "I can't wait until he hears the news tomorrow."

Following Eckert across the line were Bill Laughman, Brad Weber, DJ Montgomery and Wayne Karcher.

Heat winners were Mike Boyer, Weber and Nick Schlauch Jr. Keith Woodson was the comsolation race winner, achieving a new five-lap track record at 1:21.24.

The Vintage Cars invaded Trail-Way Speedway for the first time this season. Brian Brooks won the modified division of the feature and Gary Felty won the sportsman division of the race.

In scramble car action, Brad Kress picked up the 12-lap feature win. Justin Mong was the winner in the 4 cylinder Starlite Stock division and in the 6 cylinder division, Buddie Jeffers picked up the win.
