USCS LOSES PENSACOLA RACE TO IVAN, BUT MOBILE RACE STILL ON
FAYETTEVILLE, GA - United Sprint Car Series and 5 Flags Speedway officials have regretfully announced they have had to cancel the USCS Asphalt Thunder event originally scheduled for the Pensacola, FL half-mile paved on October 8 due to severe damage caused by Hurricane Ivan. The race was scheduled to be a make-up event from a June rainout.
"We really hate this, but this year's race may not have been meant to be since the event at 5 Flags was rained out while we were on the track in June as well," USCS Founder and President Pete Walton said. "Maybe something is trying to tell us that we just aren't suppose to race at 5 Flags in 2004. We are working with track management about scheduling an early event in 2005. It will possibly be our 2005 Asphalt Series season opener. We are sorry for an inconvenience this will cause anyone, but we just don't have any control over the weather."
USCS officials also said the Asphalt Thunder scheduled for October 9 at Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, AL is still on despite also suffering damage from Ivan. Walton said despite losing half of the double header, competitors running the Mobile event will receive 50 bonus points.
Before making the trip to Mobile, AL on October 9, the next event for USCS will be the Sunbelt Ford Cordele "Night of Thunder" for the USCS Asphalt Thunder Tour at Watermelon Capital Speedway (formerly Cordele Speedway) in Cordele, GA on Saturday night, October 2.
For more information call the track at (229) 271-9301. Watermelon Capital Speedway is located ½-mile west of I-75 at exit 104.
Discount tickets are available at Sunbelt Ford Cordele, 2511 16th Ave. E. in Cordele, GA. For more information call (229) 276-0607. For more information about USCS visit the series web site at www.uscsracing.com.
