ADAMS CHECKS OUTS FOR VIRGINIA MOTOR SPEEDWAY WIN

SALUDA, VA - Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL was the class of the field Thursday night, as he posted his fifth O'Reilly United Sprint Car Series win of the season in the Mason-Dixon Challenge at Virginia Motor Speedway. The "Malabar Missile" blasted his Milk Movers/Goodson Farms Shaw Ott from the sixth starting spot to take the lead on the opening lap, and led all 30 tours.

Adams took the checkered flag by a half-lap on the ½-mile clay oval over the defending and four-time O'Reilly USCS National Champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN in the Goodson Farms/Wendy's Maxim/Wesmar. The victory extended the 2000 O'Reilly USCS National Champion's point lead in quest of his second title.

Jon Eldreth of Colora, MD was the highest finishing driver north of the Mason-Dixon Line with a third-place showing in the Eldreth Construction Maxim/Ott. Eldreth was also the highest finishing driver from the United Racing Club (URC) and picked a $200 bonus prize.

Danny Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL drove the Martin Structures, Inc. Schnee/ZRE to a fourth-place finish, and the 19-year-old driver was also the SpeedMart Young Gun of the Race for driver under the age of 25. Justin Collett of Townsend, MD was fifth in the Collett & Sons Welding JEI/Kriner.

Matt Tiffany of Daytona Beach, FL took the sixth spot in the Independent Printing Shaw/Ott and 16-year-old driver was also the Robison Racing Products Rookie of the Race. K&N Filters Pole Award winner Steve Osborne of Cupertino, CA finished seventh in the Central Pacific Industries Eagle/Bixler.

Jason Shultz of Carlisle, PA was eighth in the Martin's Refrigeration JEI/Shultz, and picked up a $200 bonus as the highest finishing Pennsylvania 358 entrant. Bryn Gohn of Malabar, FL started 15th and finished ninth in the Milk Movers/Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott, as the 19-year-old driver took the Huggins Cams Hard Charger Award. Kevin Nouse of Etters, PA rounded out the top ten in the Exsportise Sports Marketing Schnee/Ott.

It took three tries to get the race started, as Chris Coyle of Wilmington, DE spun The Audi Shop Coyle/Coyle on the first start, and Danny Mercy of Warrenton, NC brought out the red flag on the second attempt with a flip in the first turn aboard the Mercy Racing Gambler/Mercy. Mercy walked away uninjured.

The third time was a charm, as the field rolled through turn one without incident, and Adams came from the outside of the third row to ride the cushion to the point. He passed Eldreth and Osborne in turns one and two, and then drove around the outside of Gray coming off the fourth turn to take the lead he would never relinquish.

While Adams packed his bags, turned in the key, and checked out on the field, Gray, Eldreth, Martin, and Collett battle all race long for the second spot.

Tiffany won the six-lap Air Flow Research Power Dash, Osborne won the Engler Machine and Tool first ten-lap heat race, and Gray won the ButlerBuilt second ten-lap heat race. Osborne drew the zero for the K&N Pole Award.

The next events for the O'Reilly USCS National Outlaw Thunder Tour will be Saturday night with a split show at Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, GA, and Milan Speedway in Milan, TN. The Lavonia event will also carry points for the O'Reilly USCS Carolina Thunder and Southern Thunder Tours, and the Milan race will also carry O'Reilly USCS Mid-South Thunder Tour points.
