WILLIAMS GROVE RAINED OUT AGAIN - URC-SPRINT CAR DOUBLE HEADER FRIDAY, JUNE 19

MECHANICSBURG, PA --Rain forced officials at Williams Grove Speedway to cancel the sprint and 358 sprint car races on Friday night. The United Racing Club (URC) will be at Williams Grove Speedway this Friday night, June 19, as part of sprint car double header also featuring the Williams Grove regulars.

Following a lengthy absence America's oldest travelling sprint car sanctioning body retuned to Williams Grove in 1995 and has been making an annual appearance ever since.

Kramer Williamson won the feature in URC's'95 return and will be one of the favorites this week. Williamson is a strong contender for the URC championship and knows Williams Grove Speedway as well as anyone. He owns 20 victories at the Grove including the 1978 National Open.

Williamson was also the track champion here twenty years ago.

Last year URC champion Sean Michael appeared to be headed for a feature win when an engine problem slowed his pace late in the race. Michael is not defending his title this year because he his now become a regular competitor in the Grove's sprint car division. He is attempting to secure a URC-legal engine so that he can compete in both divisions this week.

The Williams Grove regulars have been tough on the URC invaders in recent yuears. Fred Rahmer won the URC feature in 1996 and Lance Dewease swept both the URC and Williams Garove features last year. Rahmer has been nearly unstoppable wherever he has raced this year, but the URC handicapping system will force him to start deep in the feature field, which should lead to some exciting racing.
