CAMERON DODSON WEARS THE CROWN IN WINNING THE KING OF THE WINGS SPRINT CAR CHALLENGE PRESENTED BY PIER-MAC PLASTICS AT WINCHESTER SPEEDWAY

Chris Gabehart and Bret Miles Are Also Victorious On The High Banks

Winchester, IN (May 23, 2005) -- When it was all said and done it was very easy to determine who the "King Of The Wings" was at Winchester Speedway's Grand Re-Opening Weekend this past Sunday. Greenfield, Indiana's Cameron Dodson raced his way into history, first by breaking Hank Lowers track record in qualifying, then dominated the King Of the Wings Sprint Car Challenge Presented By Pier-Mac Plastics by leading 28 of the 30 laps.

The 16 year old put on an impressive display of racing ability by taking his car all over the racetrack to pass cars. Dodson lapped everyone but second place finisher Dave Steele, he even used the flat of the track in turn one to make a pass on two slower cars, the move brought the entire grandstand to it's feet as Cameron showed no fear of the "High Banks" of Winchester Speedway.

Dodson gave the fans an extra show after the race. Dodson exited his car still in full uniform including his helmet, ran into the aisles of the main grandstand giving as many fans as he could a slap on the hand to remember his victory. Dodson was then awarded the winners crown, which he proudly displayed in victory lane with track owner Charlie Shaw. The win was Dodson's first of the 2005 race season, but certainly will not be his last. Finishing third was Auto Value Sprint Series veteran Tom Fedewa, fourth was former USAC Sprint competitor Brad Armstrong and fifth was Shane Butler.

Chris Gabehart started on the pole, and led 99 of 100 laps to win the Manning Service 100 Presented By Spray Power for the CRA Super Series cars. Gabehart started the day with some impact with the wall during practice, but repaired the car, qualified third and won the event, his first CRA Super Series Presented By Spray Power victory. Gabehart was challenged early by series veteran Scott Hantz, who managed to beat Gabehart to the line on lap 50, but was never able to make the pass.

Hantz later slipped on oil on the track, which dropped him back in the lineup, this moved up 2004 CRA Super Series champion Chuck Barnes Jr. to second. Barnes was pressing Gabehart for the lead with just five laps remaining when the pair ran up on a slower car driven by Terry Fisher Jr., which didn't immediately move down out of the way for the leaders. Barnes made a quick move to go under Gabehart and Fisher, when Fisher suddenly moved down to give the leaders the preferred racing line. The three were then three wide going into turn one. Fisher and Barnes made contact sliding up the track into the turn one wall leaving third place running Tommy St. John no were to go. St. John's car made heavy contact with the wall and then Barnes's car, finally ending up on top of the Barnes's car.

The wreck brought out the red flag for clean up. St. John was transported to the hospital for observation, but was released and was back at the track before the day's activities ended. Barnes and Fisher both escaped the incident with no injuries, although all three cars involved sustained heavy damage.

After a delay for the red flag situation and some brief rain showers racing resumed with Gabehart getting the win over Eddie Hoffman. Scott Hantz finished in third, 15 year old Landon Cassill in fourth and Muncie, Indiana's Jim Crabtree Jr. in fifth.

The Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stocks made their debut in the Sunoco Race Fuel 40 on Sunday. Muncie, Indiana's Bret Miles picked up an emotional victory. He shared victory lane with his father Dennis Miles and son Bret Miles Jr., this was the first time all three generations had competed together in the same racing event. Bret Miles Jr. finished eighth while Dennis Miles finished eighteenth.

Jason Atkinson chased Miles across the line in second. John Heck, who also competed in the CRA Super Series event, came home in third. Rich Boyer finished in fourth while Louisville, Kentucky native Doug Miller made his long haul to the event pay off with a fifth place finish.

The next event at Winchester Speedway will be the Kenny Irwin Memorial for the Valvoline USAC Sprint Car Series on Sunday, June 12th. Also on the racing program will be the Max 93.5/96.7 CRA Street Stocks and Anderson Speedway SuperTrucks. Spectator gates open at 10:30AM, the race program will begin at 2PM.
