The cajun is a sensation, again!

They don't call him the Cajun Sensation for nothing. When Jason Johnson gets behind the wheel of his Aussiefast Transport/STP Eagle he is on the track to do a job and that is be the fastest driver on the race track.

In the penultimate round of the World Series Sprintcar Championship at Adelaide's Speedway City Johnson certainly achieved that putting on a brilliant display of driving for the fans in the process.

After qualifying ninth fastest the 27-year-old charged through the pack in his heat races to finish third in both. While the ever consistent Johnson was having a good night out at the races so too was his team mate Brad Heywood. The former World Series Champion recorded a second and third in his heat races to be eleventh in points while Johnson was fifth.

In the A-Dash that decides the inside row starting positions for the 30-lap A-Main Johnson finished second while Heywood claimed fifth spot.

Chaos broke loose at the start of the A-Main when Brooke Tatnell failed to accelerate exiting turn four and was collected by three other competitors. Both Craft Disbury Racing drivers emerged unscathed from the incident.

The demise of Tatnell moved Johnson up to the front row from which he leapt into the lead when the green light was displayed only to have another incident in turn four bring about the red lights and another complete restart.

With his car not handling the rough low line too well at all Johnson moved up track on the opening lap of the next start costing him a couple of positions while Heywood was holding strong inside the top 10.

After 23 laps that included one more red light stoppage and two caution periods Johnson had found himself in third position with seven laps remaining. Heywood meanwhile was in seventh.

Two laps later Johnson snatched the lead with a sensational outside pass only to lose the lead when he bounced in turn two. He was extremely lucky not to have ended upside down or in the concrete. On the next lap Heywood got together with Trevor Brilman severely bending the front end of Heywood's car and ending his race early.

The nest restart was an interesting one with leader, Daryn Pittman having a moment in one and made contact with Max Dumesny who was on the inside of him. Johnson passed them both on the outside. Pittman stopped on the track brining about another caution period.

Johnson battled with a damaged nose wing for the final two laps but couldn't find a way past Dumesny who held on for the win and gain enough points to seal his fifth World Series Sprintcar Championship in the process.

The team at Craft Disbury Racing would like to congratulate Max on his Championship victory but are also focusing on taking second in the Championship that concludes tomorrow night.

WHAT THE DRIVER'S SAID

JASON JOHNSON

"It was a rough night but we came out smelling pretty good. There was a couple of times there in the A where it could have got nasty but in the end it all worked out OK but it would have been good to be one spot further back.

Every time I found my way to the front I would find another hole in the track that would send me of balance and really upset the car.

When Max and Pittman got together and I got around the outside I thought maybe our luck has changed but somehow Max was able to keep going and then hold on for the win. He has been real good all year and has done one hell of a job for the Championship.

I'd like to thank Peter Morris from Maxwill Engines has really helped us out over the last couple of days sorting aq few minor motor problems out, it worked well tonight."

BRAD HEYWOOD

"That track was tough to find a good set up on all night.

During the heat races the car felt a little loose and I couldn't get the drive out of the turns. We made some changes for the feature race and I had trouble turning the car into turn one for some reason that cost me a heap of time.

I thought that I had managed to stay clear of Brilman but he caught the front end and it is bent pretty severely bent. Myself and the team will have to work hard tomorrow but we want to finish this year on a high."
