3R Racing Looking Forward to Home Racein Denver

Englewood, Colorado -- 3R Racing will field three cars for their home event this weekend at the Grand Prix of Denver. Drivers Tommy Archer and Tim Wiens will be rejoined by teammate Phil McClure for round nine of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT series race to be run on Sunday through the streets of Denver.J J Tommy Archer, driver of the number 1/c3controls/3R Viper, has been able to get within two points of the series lead despite fines, probation and points penalties. The Duluth, Minnesota resident has been working hard with 3R engineer Will Moody to stay-the-course and keep focused on defending his series driver's title.

"The last street race at St. Petersburg we were able to win," said Archer. "No one has raced the Denver circuit before, so that should even things out a little. The 50 lbs. weight we lost is nice, but the Corvettes have been fast and are still pretty light. Our resrictor size will hinder my ability to get off of the tight corners. I am still on probation, but we have to be aggressive and try to score as many points as possible, we are only two out of the championship lead. Qualifying this weekend will be important, I need to be somewhere in the top six or seven. We will try and put on the best show possible for everyone as it is the teams home event."

Tim Wiens will put his number 3/FirsTier Bank/3R Viper through it paces in front of his home town crowd. "It will be nice to be able to sleep in my own bed on a race weekend for once. The home town race is great, it also comes with a lot of distractions. We need to have a good weekend, we have battled back in contention with the championship points and it is nice to have Phil back. We are involved with the weekend on many levels, from sponsorship with FirsTier to having everyone at 3R involved. The track layout through the streets looks challenging, but we are up to the task."

Phil McClure will be back behind the wheel of the number 2/FirsTier Bank/3R Viper for the Denver race. "I finished sixth earlier at the street race in St. Petersburg," said Phil McClure. "Bob Raub ran a vintage race there last year so he has at least seen the layout. I will walk the track on Thursday and a get a feel for the design. The Corvette and Porsches should be the cars to beat. Cadillac is always in there as well. I have been doing pretty well on the dirt tracks back home so I am still sharp. My little lay over from the series will not affect my approach. Tim has been driving my car so I am looking forward to feeling the changes that he and Dax Raub have sorted out."

Archer's fourth place at Portland two weeks ago puts him just two points behind Pilgrim, 177 to 179, in the fight for the series drivers championship. Tim Wiens has reasserted himself in the top ten.

On August 14th Speed Channel's Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain will be at the 3R Racing shop to discuss the Viper, the Speed GT championship and take caller questions via satellite with Tommy Archer following the Denver Grand Prix on Sunday evening.

Round nine of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT series will be run through the streets of Denver on August 14th and televised on the Speed Channel on Saturday, August 20th at 2:00 p.m.

3R Racing Viper Competition Coupe weight and restrictions:

* Base weight 3,150 lbs. minus 50 lbs. post Portland adjustment

* 35% air restrictor

* Archer R.E.W.A.R.D.S. weight is 180 lbs.
