For the first time in series history, the Speedvision World Challenge will be the lead show on the new event held at the same site which hosted Professional Formula Atlantic races in the late 1970s -- the last of which was won by Keke Rosberg in 1978.
The top-four drivers in the Speedvision GT point standings are separated by only eight points, including Bill Cooper (88), Jeff McMillin (84), Bobby Archer (82) and Michael Galati (80). The four drive four different cars, meaning Corvette, BMW M3, Viper and Audi S4 continue to all set the pace.
A new team (Wild Dog Racing) will be on hand at St. Croix with a pair of Dodge Viper GTS cars for Tom Edwards and factory Oreca Viper driver David Donohue.
Peter Cunningham looks to tie Lou Gigliotti's record of most-career World Challenge wins (18). The short (1.1-mile) circuit should favor his BMW M3 for a good finish.
RealTime Racing has won all four Speedvision Touring Car races, albeit with three separate drivers (Pierre Kleinubing 2, Kevin Schrantz and Hugh Plumb). The team will again face stiff competition from the BMW 328 teams of TC Kline Racing, Turner Motorsports and European Racing Technologies.
