In only his second race, Drendel turned a fastest time of 1:29.257 (99.178 mph) in the No. 54 Bell Motorsports/Drendel Racing Ferrari 355–topping defending race and series champion Bobby Archer's No. 32 IQuest/Viper Speed Dodge Viper GTS by 0.608-second leading into Saturday's qualifying. Michael Galati, of North Olmstead, Ohio, Peter Cunningham, of W. Bend, Wis., and David Schardt, of Dayton, Ohio, completed the top-five.
