CANADIANS WILDEN AND WITTMER FASTEST ON DAY ONE AT MOSPORT
The 50th anniversary season officially kicked off today with start of the 2010 Victoria Day SpeedFest at Mosport International Raceway.
All four of the series' running this weekend held their test sessions on Mosport's famed road course. The Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship, World Challenge Championship, Sundown Grand Prix and SCCA Trans-Am practiced in preparation for the weekend's races.
Two Canadians ran the fastest laps in their respective series during the testing sessions.
Oakville native Ken Wilden, who recently signed with Derhaag Motorsports to run in the Trans-Am race, was impressive setting an unofficial Series lap record of 1:16.664 in his Chevrolet Corvette.
Kuno Wittmer of Montreal, who sits second in the World Challenge GT points and is coming off a win at Long Beach, had the fastest Series time (unofficial) at 1:24.0 in his Dodge Motorsports Viper.
Saturday's action begins with practice and qualifying sessions in the morning. The Castrol Touring and World Challenge will run the first leg of their doubleheaders Saturday afternoon. The day closes out with the three-hour Sundown Grand Prix Endurance race into darkness.
