FIRST RACES OF THE SEASON ON DAY TWO AT MOSPORT

The second day of Mosport's Victoria Day SpeedFest saw non-stop action and the first races of the weekend.

In the World Challenge Championship, Randy Pobst of Gainesville, GA beat out Montreal native Kuno Wittmer by 2.532 seconds to take the checker flag in the GT Class. Coming into today's race Pobst was fourth in the point standings but now has a 21 point advantage over Wittmer heading into tomorrow's second leg of their double header. Rookie driver Fred Roberts of Toronto was the highest placing rookie in the field with a ninth place finish to take control in the rookie of the year battle.

The GTS Class saw John Heinricy of Holly, MI take the top spot while point's leader Peter Cunningham of Milwaukee, WI finished third.

In the Touring Class Chip Herr of Lititz, PA was victorious.

The SCCA Trans-Am Series held two practice runs today with Oakville native Ken Wilden posting the fastest lap time of 1:17.410, over a second ahead of his competition. Fellow Canadian Blaise Csida of Stouffville, ON had the fourth fastest lap time of the day at 1:20.919.

Saturday's racing also the Castrol Canadian Touring Car Challenge hold their first of two races this long weekend. In the Super Touring Class, Marc-Antoine Camirand of St-Leonard d'Asto, QC took the pole position in qualifying over Montreal native Nick Wittmer by 0.690 seconds. That set the tone for the race as Camirand finished first and Wittmer second. Anthony Rapone of Thornhill, ON won the Touring Class after sitting in first after qualifying.

Sunday's schedule begins with practice and qualifying in the morning. After lunch the final three races of the weekend will take place, with World Challenge and Castrol Touring holding their second races of the weekend, followed by the SCCA Trans-Am to wrap the kick-off weekend to Mosport's 50th anniversary season.
