KUNO WITTMER REWARDED WITH 4TH PLACE IN MOSPORT
Grand Prix of Mosport, Ontario.-- Kuno Wittmer was on a roll after winning in Touring Class with his brother Nick at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières last week and he was steering his # 44 RealTime Racing Acura RSX on his favourite track, Mosport, Ontario. In practice session on Friday, Kuno did what most expected with fastest times in both runs and was looking to top the charts all weekend. But the track was soaked at the time of the qualifying session, giving a definite edge to all-wheel-drive machines and Kuno had to settle with seventh on the starting grid. In the race, he charged to fourth within a few laps but had to sit behind teammate Kleinubing for the last 20 laps, unable to pass the defending champion. Wittmer now lies sixth in the standings.
"The rain spoiled everything, smiled Wittmer. I knew I would be fast on Friday, but to top the charts by 0,75 second was a real tribute to the Realtime crew who gave me a strong car. I was expecting to ride the wave all through the weekend, but that's what we got, a big wave of water on the track and the all-wheel drive machines prevailed in the qualifying session with the top three places. I was seventh on the grid but had a very good start to move up a few positions in the first laps. Then I was fourth behind Pierre (Kleinubing) and really diced with him for some 20 laps. The only team order we have at Realtime is not to knock one another off the track: I tried many times to pass him for third but to no avail. Suprinsingly, Pierre had his quickest laps at that time. I manage to hold my fourth place at the end, even if a strut tower had broken over the curbs in turn 8. I'm pretty happy with this fourth: I'm now sixth in the standings and look forward to the next race at Road Atlanta in early October."
