Team Panoz Racing will make its Pirelli World Challenge debut this year, led by motorsports veteran Tom Milner, running two full-season entries.
One of these will be for Arizona-domiciled Briton Ian James who will campaign the #50 machine. He has raced Panoz models before, campaigning the Esperante in 2009 and Abruzzi in 2010 and 2011.
The Avezzano is Panoz’s first new sportscar since the Esperante and is all-carbon fiber panels and features, on an extruded aluminum chassis. It is powered by a 6.2-liter, 450hp aluminum block V8 mated to a heavy duty, close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. First customer cars are expected to emerge this summer.
The team plans to begin testing the racecar version in March prior to competing on the streets of St. Petersburg on March 10-12.
Milner commented: “After a few years of taking a step back from racing, I’m excited to be back and especially with my good friend Don Panoz and his team. Very happy to have Ian join us and we plan on giving the competition a hard time.”
James said: “I am very excited to be back behind the wheel of a Panoz racecar and entering the exciting World Challenge series. The GTS platform is the wave of the future and I expect the new Avezzano to be a contender.”
