Braselton, Georgia - Michael Galati, driving the number 9 Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition, won the Speedvision GT driver's title today at Road Atlanta.
Starting from his second place qualifying position, Galati led the race through to turn 10 until being passed by the NSX of P.D. Cinningham.
Settling into second for the remainder of the race secured his championship lead. Following closely was teammate Derek Bell in the Legends of Motorsport/Audi S4 Competition.
With a solid third place finish, Bell put a cap on the manufacturer title for Audi.
The win by Galati gave him 283 points to secure his first GT drivers title. With his third place effort, Bell finishes the year in eleventh place in points with 142.
Michael Galati, Champion Audi/Audi S4 Competition: "I had a good start, but didn't want to take any unnecessary risks. It is great to win the title for Audi. Dave Maraj and the Champion Team did a great job. All year long they never stopped improving the car, we were even testing last weekend. We wanted to show everyone how good a four-door hi-performance car run."
Derek Bell, Legends of Motorsport/Audi S4 Competition: "I didn't get a very good start because I had trouble seeing the starting light from where I was. I moved into second for a while until Michael went past. We played it safe today. I was sliding a lot, but it was important to keep the Porsche guys behind us to win the manufacturers title for Audi."
Rod Bymaster, manager Audi Sport North America: "What a weekend, we won about everything at Road Atlanta. Michael and Derek really capped off a great weekend for the company. Champion Racing has done a great job with the cars all year. Michael did an excellent job to keep the car at front all season and Derek really came alive this weekend."
The first race of the Speedvision GT weekend from Road Atlanta will be televised on Friday, October 26, at 9:00 p.m. E S T on Speedvision. The second race will be televised on November 6 at 9:00 p.m.
