Autosport Development Road Atlanta Qualifying Report
Trenton, MI -- September 28, 2006 -- It was exciting to have both GTOs on track during today's SPEED World Challenge qualifying session, although the outcome wasn't quite what Autosport Development desired.
As a result, Stu Hayner, driving the No. 21 Trenton Forging Pontiac GTO, will start 15th on the grid tomorrow in Round Nine of the GT championship race. Dane Moxlow, behind the wheel of the No. 20 Trenton Forging Pontiac GTO, starts in the 26th position. "It didn't go as planned for either of us," says Dane Moxlow. "With tires gone, we brought the cars in early."
New car glitches affected the performance of both vehicles. The team is working diligently to address those issues, and everyone's expecting the cars to be in great shape for Friday's race.
As a new driver to the series, Dane experienced track surface issues he didn't anticipate.
"There was a lot of debris on the track," says Dane. "The combination of debris, dirt and antifreeze made for a couple of interesting spots that were very slippery."
The practice and qualifying sessions have given Dane a better feel for the track and the competition, and he's looking forward to competing in his first professional race. While Dane would like a better finish tomorrow, he's realistic. Since it's his first 50-minute race, making it through the entire race and coming back in one piece are his first priorities.
The team is confident the changes they're making will give both drivers a better run, and they're looking for Stu to move to the front of the pack.
