Volvo Win at Road Atlanta!

Volvo scored its third victory of the season in the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT Championship race at Road Atlanta...with Andy Pilgrim at the wheel. The weekend started out strong for both K-PAX/3R Racing Volvo S60 teams, with Randy and Andy each leading a practice session and Randy capturing the GT pole with Andy in second. Luck started to turn for Randy when he lost the coin toss and was moved from first on the grid to fifth (he should have called tails). The starting position didn't matter, however, when Randy broke a part in the drive line on the start and was out of the race. Andy was able to capitalize on the standing start and launched himself into the lead which led to the win.

"I am very happy to see Andy and K-PAX/3R Racing get the win. Our Volvos were working so well at Road Atlanta. With the long break between races, the team was able to catch up with many of the development issues we wanted to address. Andy showed that our team is making progress on improving our standing starts. The weather was very hot and humid which helps our all-wheel drive Volvos. The Toyo tires are sensitive to over heating and the AWD helps the tires to last longer and give us more performance. I really think K-PAX does a better job at car setup than anyone else in the series. Our cars are not extremely sophisticated, but simple, strong and well-tuned. Something just broke in my drive line and that's racing."

"I was very happy to get the pole at my home track although I was frustrated to lose the coin toss. I know that the toss adds to the show but our Volvos like to be out in front in clear air. I had high hopes that I would have a good finish in spite of the grid position, but it was not to be. Our team has been working hard to develop the Volvos and we will run them next year. I am pleased at their level of effort and grateful to be a part of K-PAX/3R Racing. I am also grateful for my personal sponsors Team Janica Racing, WeatherTech, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club, ChaseCam, and saferacer.com who continue to support my racing adventures."

The World Challenge GT race at Road Atlanta will be broadcast Tuesday, October 20 at 2 PM EST on SPEED. Randy's next SPEED World Challenge GT race will be the season finale on October 9-11 at Laguna Seca. The next race for Randy in the KONI Challenge will be October 2-4 at Virginia International Raceway, also a season finale..
