GameStreamer Named Sponsor of Fierce World Challenge Rookie of the Year Battles
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 7, 2010) -- On the heels of an earlier announcement naming GameStreamer the Official Digital Gaming Provider of World Challenge, the gaming website has extended its partnership with the World Challenge Championships to include the GameStreamer Rookie of the Year award.
The post-season award is given annually to the top new driver in the GT, GTS and Touring Car classes.
Through three rounds this season in GT competition, Fred Roberts has scored 145 points behind the wheel of a Daskalos/Roberts Racing Dodge Viper to lead Steve Ott, running his first World Challenge season in a Brass Monkey Racing Nissan GT-R.
In GTS, Kevin Helms' pair of runner-up finishes on the streets of St. Petersburg has him in the driver's seat through three rounds with 179 points, trailed by Tom Lepper (162). Tyler McQuarrie, who won in his World Challenge debut at Long Beach but missed the opening two races, sits third with 135 points.
The GameStreamer Rookie of the Year standings mirror the Driver's Championship race in Touring Car, as a host of new drivers have taken the class by storm. Robert Stout, driving a Scion tC, has used a pair of runner-up finishes at St. Petersburg and a win at Long Beach to climb to the top of both standings with 350 points. The 18-year-old leads Eric Meyer (281), Rounds One and Two winner Todd Buras (264), and teammate Dan Gardner (263), who reside in the same order in the overall Touring Car Championship.
A driver is considered a Rookie in the World Challenge Championships if he or she has not competed in three races in one season, five in their career or does not come to the series with considerable professional racing experience at a level equal to World Challenge or higher.
Sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing, the 12-race 2010 World Challenge Championship continues May 21-23 at Mosport with the Victoria Day SpeedFest Weekend presented by Optima Batteries. For more information, please visit www.world-challenge.com.
