Volvos Get Heavier, Vipers Breathe Easier with SPEED GT Adjustments

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 7, 2009) -- SCCA Pro Racing announced today that the Volvo S60 and Dodge Viper have received a competition adjustment before the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Championship heads to Mosport International Raceway May 16-17.

After dominating last weekend's event at New Jersey Motorsports Park, the Volvo's new base weight has been raised from 3,000 to 3,350 lbs. The actual adjustment from New Jersey to Mosport will not be 350 lbs., as the Volvos had not been able to trim enough weight to achieve the 3,000-lb. figure.

"After evaluating the performance of the Volvo, which has been under development, it was clear that an adjustment was warranted," SCCA Pro Racing Technical and Competition Director Ken Tripkos said. "The cars were not able to get down to the base weight of 3,000 lbs. at New Jersey, but the adjustment is still significant and should bring the vehicle better in line with others in the field."

Additionally, the Dodge Viper received an air restrictor adjustment from 35 percent to 25 percent.

Round Four of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge GT Championship is set for Sunday, May 17, as part of the Victoria Day Speedfest Weekend.
