World Challenge Manufacturers' Fan Championship Heating Up

TOPEKA, Kan. (June 30, 2010) - After three events and five races, the battle for the 2010 World Challenge Manufacturers' Fan Championship is fast becoming an all-out Sports Car War.

As part of the Sports Car Wars marketing initiative in 2010, this is the inaugural year for the Manufacturers' Fan Championship. This one-of-a-kind championship gives enthusiasts of brands the opportunity to compete against each other at each World Challenge event. Fans are judged and ranked as to how well and enthusiastically they support their favorite brand.

So far in 2010 the competition has been fierce and the rivalries have not disappointed. Volvo and Honda enthusiasts laid down the gauntlet at the first races of the season at St. Petersburg, dominating the competition and showing that Volvo and Honda fans would be a force to be reckoned with in the race for the Championship.

"We were thrilled to help Honda win Round One of the Manufacturers' Fan Championship at St. Pete, but certainly not surprised," said John Whitaker of Team Hondaworks. "Honda fans are extremely brand loyal and the fun-loving, rowdy Honda fans seem to enjoy seeing a variety Honda products on the track. Team Hondaworks wants to thank the Florida s2000 club for their support during the weekend. We made a number of new friends!"

"Volvo is currently leading the Manufacturer's Championship and Randy Pobst is leading the GT Drivers' Championship," K-PAX Racing Team Owner Jim Haughey said. "We hope all of our Volvo fans show up to Watkins Glen to go for a win in the Manufacturers' Fan Championship. The competition will be fierce but we hear a large following of Volvo enthusiasts will be showing up at The Glen and we look forward to their support."

At Long Beach, fans had many opportunities to interact with the teams and fellow enthusiasts and compete against the other manufacturers. Dodge enthusiasts came out on top with their support for the Woodhouse Racing and Daskalos Roberts Racing teams.

"We are fast recognizing the importance of this fan championship," said Bob Woodhouse, owner of Woodhouse Performance. "If you think about it, this is why we race, for a chance to compete in front of people who really care about our manufacturers' products."

Receiving honorable mentions at Long Beach were the enthusiasts supporting Nissan, Mazda, Volvo, and Porsche.

The next battlefield was north of the border when the World Challenge traveled to the legendary Mosport International Raceway for two races. Corvette enthusiasts finally awoke to show their true colors and won the weekend in their support for Canadian racing hero Ron Fellows, driving for CRP Racing, and Tony Gaples, driving for Blackdog Racing.

The World Challenge heads to Watkins Glen International Raceway in upstate New York for the Independence Day weekend and going into the World Challenge Grand Prix of Watkins Glen presented by Sunoco, Corvette enthusiasts lead the way with two wins. Volvo, Honda, and Dodge each have one win each, and with seven races still to go enthusiasts from Acura, Porsche, Nissan, VW, Mazda, Scion and Lotus still have plenty of opportunity to win the Championship.
