GMG Racing rounds out strong World Challenge season at Miller Motorsports Park

October 5, 2010 (Santa Ana, Calif.) -- James Sofronas and William Ziegler capped another strong season of World Challenge competition for GMG Racing when they crossed the finish line fifth and tenth at Sunday's Utah Grand Prix, the final event of the 2010 World Challenge season.

In a very competitive World Challenge season, the GMG Racing Porsches captured two wins and were a factor in the drivers, team, and manufacturers titles until the final round, in another year where the team defined Porsche performance in North America. In fact, the team was named the GT Crew of the Year by World Challenge.

Highest placed of the team was James Sofronas in the No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 WC, who accumulated one win (Mid-Ohio), seven podium finishes, and one pole position on his way to third place in the GT championship -- a result all the more impressive considering he missed round four at Mosport, forcing him to start round five at Mosport from the back of the field.

Teammate Dino Crescentini, in the No. 4 GMG / Stoptech Porsche 911 GT3 WC, missed the final event at Miller Motorsports Park but parlayed his victory at St. Petersburg and two other podium finishes to an eventual ninth place in the GT championship. Not far behind was William Ziegler, in the No. 05 GMG / Swisher Porsche 911 GT3-WC. A year after he was named the GT class Rookie of the Year, Ziegler put in a consistent string of finishes to finish eleventh in the championship, narrowly missing the top-ten.

In addition to being awarded the GT Crew of the Year award from World Challenge, the crew of the No. 14 GMG Porsche 911 GT3-WC earned third in the World Challenge team championship. Porsche also finished second in the Manufacturers championship in GT.

"Our goal was always to win the manufacturers title for Porsche, and we just fell a bit short this year," said Sofronas. "Our guys did a great job preparing and building our Porsches, and Dino and Bill both had great seasons. Give credit to Randy Pobst, Andy Pilgrim, and the K-Pax team as they raced us hard but clean all year and they did a great job to win their championship. But we are going to be coming back for it again next year!"
