Luciano Burti started ahead of the competition at the first free practice of Brazilian V8 Stock Car Championship. The eight round is held on the fast-but-short circuit of Cascavel, in the west region of Paraná state. Driving for RZ Motorsport - owned by his friend Ricardo Zonta -, Burti made a quick lap in 1min02s053 through the 3.058-km track, with an average speed of 177.4 km/h.

We know that the current word inside the garage is work because the field is very close.

However, almost the whole field came close to the former F1 racer, as 26 of the 32-driver grid were within the same second. Valdeno Brito was second, 0s07 behind Burti and only 0s001 in front of Galid Osman, third. The new millionaire, Thiago Camilo came fourth after winning the "Million Reais Race" in Goiânia two weeks ago.

"It is a good start and that’s positive for the team, as we have had some difficult races previously. I would say that starting P1 on tracks like Cascavel and the street circuits we have on the calendar is quite challenging. We know that the current word inside the garage is work because the field is very close. We have to work on the details, but I cannot deny that it is always very good to be the fastest", said Burti.

The schedule goes on this Saturday with FP2 at 8am (Brazilian Time) and qualifying session at 12 o’clock. The two-race format is back for round 8: Race One starts at 1:10 pm (48 minutes + 1 lap) and Race Two starts at 2:25 pm (28 minutes + 1 lap).
