New Series Name And Logo For 2000 Season

Las Vegas, NV - General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMSPO) announced that ACDelco would return as the series entitlement sponsor for the 2000 American Speed Association season. The one-year contract extension, announced during SEMA Show '99, marks the 11th-consecutive year that GMSPO's aftermarket and replacement parts divi sion will serve as the ASA series title sponsor.

It was also announced that the official series name and logo have been changed for 2000. The series is to be comprehensively referred to as ASA ACDelco Series. For the previous 10 years, it was known as ASA ACDelco Challenge Series. The change is designe d to enhance name-recognition and showcase the ACDelco brand name in conjunction with ASA Racing.

"We are pleased to announce that ACDelco will continue its strong association with ASA, as the title sponsor of the ASA ACDelco Series," GMSPO Director of Advertising and Sales Promotion Ken Robinson stated. "ACDelco's relationship with the American Speed Association has continually proved to be beneficial to the sales and promotion of the ACDelco Parts product line. ASA provides us with creative and measurable marketing programs, along with tremendous national exposure for the ACDelco brand."

ACDelco began sponsoring ASA in 1990, and has played a pivotal role in the growth of the series over the past decade. The vertical sponsorship and marketing package has included ticketing and hospitality opportunities at each and every event, retail drive n promotions, merchandising and licensing privileges, and a national television presence.

"The plans for the future of ASA have been set," Stan Novak, the Associate Sports Marketing Manager for GMSPO, said. "With the new VORTEC (red) ASA 5700 engine and what that means for General Motors and to ACDelco, will propel ASA, and ACDelco, into the 2 1st Century."

"ACDelco's continued involvement as the series title sponsor has elevated ASA through the 1990's," Mark Gundrum, ASA Vice President of Sales & Marketing, stated. "By extending their position into the next century, the overall support will serve to further strengthen our efforts for ASA and ACDelco."

ACDelco's sponsorship tenure ranks as the fourth-longest consecutive series entitlement program in all of motorsports, behind only the Busch Grand National, Winston Cup, and Winston Drag Racing Series.

The 2000 ASA ACDelco Series will open on Sunday, March 26 in Lakeland, Florida. It will mark the start of the 33rd season of competition for the American Speed Association.
