Allison Legacy series opens at Hardeeville

Legacy Drivers will be competing in a 150 lap race at the new Hardeeville Motor Speedway for a National Touring Race for the first time ever on Saturday, March 17th, 2001. Among the early entries are two female drivers. Young Katie Leonard from North Augusta, South Carolina will be debuting in her very first Legacy car race. 20 year old Emily Harkins from Largo, Florida will be driving the #88 T-Bird, one of three mounts out of the Malcomson-MRD racing stables in Florida. Harkins qualified in third place last fall at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia and finished in a respectable twelveth finish out of forty six cars. She has been racing since she was five years old. National points leader Danny Keaton will be a tough competitor along with of drivers coming in from at least eight different states. Wade Hall from Leesville, South Carolina will be starting his first Legacy race at Hardeeville.

St. Patricks Day Festivities in Savannah, Georgia will set the scene for a fun weekend. Many teams are vacationing in the area and will be on hand for holiday parades and events. Donnie Allison will be on hand Saturday morning of the Legacy race and participate in the St. Patricks Day Parade in Savannah.

Allison Legacy Cars are three quarter scale replicas of Winston Cup cars. They have a Mazda B2200 motor that produces 125 horsepower. The cars are built by the Allison Brothers, sons of NASCAR legend Donnie Allison, in Salisbury, North Carolina. There is a National Touring Series and many regional series across the country including Florida, Texas, California, Pennsylvania, The Carolinas and the Great Lakes states.
