Wayne Anderson Departs ASA Team

Pendleton, IN (July 10, 2002) - In a surprising move less than one week from the start of the second half of the 2002 ASA Racing Series season, the Grand American Race Cars Team, of Birmingham (AL) and driver Wayne Anderson have parted ways for the balance of the 2002 season.

Anderson had completed 2,459 laps and had posted a single top-5 finish along with three other top-10 finishes. He held the 12th position in ASA drivers' points standings following the June 30 Kul Brew 300 at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway, the 10th of 20 races on the 2002 schedule.

"We were getting to the point where we weren't working very well together," said crew chief Augie Grill. "There was some finger pointing and we just figured it was time to make a change."

Anderson was the primary driver for the Grand American Race Cars team the previous three seasons prior to 2002. From 1999 to 2001, the team captured two All-Pro Series championships.

"Frankie Grill (team owner) and I split and I don't have any plans right now," said Anderson. "We haven't had the opportunity to test the way we should be and it didn't look like that opportunity was going to come. This deal came up so quick that I haven't had an opportunity to pursue anything. I'm looking for a ride in ASA. It is a class series and I've enjoyed working with everyone in the series. I appreciate everything that people have done for me. I would love to return to ASA in the right situation."

Effective with the July 14th Pennsylvania 300 at Jennerstown (PA) Speedway, Jason Boyd of Tampa (FL) will pilot the number 86 Jani-King car. It is expected that he will finish the remaining 10 events on the 2002 schedule.
