Barcus Racing Rules Opening Night Standing Room Only Crowd at AMS

(Angola, Indiana) -- The Angola Motor Speedway once again roared into action on Saturday Night with the 2005 Season Opener presented by WLKI in Angola and Tri-State Line- X of Angola. "If we build it they will come" said Track Owner Richard Poe. That they did, fans that attended the first racing event since the entire main side was demolished and reconstructed was greeted to an Owner's dream come true, a standing room only crowd. Fans and racers flocked from miles away to get a peek at the totally redone facility. "This place is the best entertainment facility around" said race fan Joe Froy from Southern Indiana. The construction process took a year and a half but the fans finally were able to see why, and they loved it! Track Announcer, Wes Parrish, asked the crowd to applaud the accomplishments of Dick and Jackie Poe and the crowd showed their appreciation as many gave a standing ovation.

The racing on the track proved to be as exciting as everything else with Smith Enterprises Mini Stock Rookie Contender, Eric Barcus winning his first ever feature event at the Angola Motor Speedway in his very first start. Barcus was able to jump to the top spot from lap one and would have fierce competition such as Kedrin Holliday, Chad Minnix, Frank Schaefer, and Joe Kunberger all taking their chances on fighting for the lead. Nobody would be able to take it away from Barcus. The top 5 finishers were Barcus, Kunberger, Derik Sturdivant, Justin DuBois, and Janel Rowe.

Barcus Racing driver Mike Overholser was the benefactor of unfortunate events as the Chris Johnson Racing Engines Street Stocks feature event rumbled into action. 2002 & 2003 Street Stock Champion Shane Crager started on the outside front row and assumed the lead at the start of the 20 lap event. Erik Schaeffer would battle his way to second only to have problems and have to pull off just before the half way point. Jackie Terry grabbed the second position and tried to find a way to pass Crager as the laps wound down. Side by side into turn 3 and 4 the top two locked horns and that would bring out the caution. Overholser who was running in 3rd gained the lead and would battle 2nd place finisher Tony Muzzillo for the win. Ben DeLong, Jackie Terry, and Lance Krider finished in the top 5.

The Jack De Late Model Sportsman had a spectacular field of cars as they made their way onto the 3/8 mile high banked oval. Troy Moyer looked to be the car to beat the as the field took the green. Rookie Contender Zach Henderson was looking for his first ever Sportsman victory as he battled for the top spot. Larry Henderson marched his way through the field to take the number two spot away from his son Zach. Larry would set his sights on the leader. Larry looking under Moyer as they come out of turn 4 at the halfway point, and slides the car up the track putting it in a spin. Once again Zach has the number two spot. Steve Minich Jr. in the third hole waits for the green to wave and puts the move on Zach to overtake the second position. Minich passes Moyer for the lead with only 5 laps to go and is able to hold on for the victory. Moyer holds on to second, Zach Henderson, Fast Qualifier Tony Barcus and Billy Hutson round out the top 5.

Fast Qualifier Tony Dager was the victor in the Superior Auto IMOD division. Dager was able to move into the top spot on lap 4 and hold on for the win. Cautions flew for the IMOD Feature Event several times as drivers were sent spinning in all directions as one race vehicle was found to have put fluid all the way around the racing surface. After cleanup time the field went back green and Dager would be able to spread his lead to 3 or 4 car lengths. Dager who is looking to notch his name in the Angola Motor Speedway Championship Books, never looked back and was able to visit Line-X Victory Lane for the first time in 2005. Dager, Poorman, Moyer, Mike Bufink, and Rob Hicks were the top 5.

An awesome field of super fast Budweiser Super Late Models smoked the asphalt for their 35 lap feature event. Craig Everage put his new ride in the top spot as the green flag flew. Craig Mann was able to cruise behind Everage as the field maneuvered behind the top 2. Brent Jack worked his way up to the front and passed Mann on lap 11 and was working to take the lead away from Everage on lap 13. Kale Asztalos ran in the 3rd position by the halfway point only to have Mike Kugler over take him on lap 28. Fast Qualifier Scott Hantz followed Kugler as they advanced the positions. Everage would have problems with only a few laps remaining and coast into the pits for repair, giving Kugler the number 2 spot. Jack would claim the Victory with Kugler, Hantz, Asztalos, and Greg Parr posting top five finishes.

In the Indy United Racing League Pro Trucks Tom Miller was able to clench the win over Kerry Roseman. Steve Blair wrapped up the win in the Stock Cars over Steve Blankenship.
