AUBURNDALE SPEEDWAY PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(9-6-97) Veteran Castleberry Back in Victory Lane by Gene Crane Auburndale, FL 97 Central Florida racing veteran Jimmy Castleberry returned to his winning ways Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway. Castleberry, who returned to racing several months ago, put his number 36 out front and never looked back to lead every circuit of the 25 lap feature. Howard O'Steen battled his way up to third at the halfway point and worked past second place Jimmy Ballard with 10 laps remaining. O'Steen closed the distance between himself and Castleberry but could not deny Castleberry the win. Ballard settled for third with Tony Poff and Ray Cuzzone rounding out the top five. Point leader Cuzzone was able to pad his lead by another four points for a total of 48 between himself and second place Ollie Harbin. Harbin finished seventh in the feature as Rookie of the Year contender and third place Tony Poff also gained 8 points on Harbin. Harbin holds a 23 point advantage over Poff. The Street Stock division saw Ron Lofquist plant his lonely Ford up front and score the win in the 25 lap feature. Intense competition throughout the field had the fans on the edge of their seats with battles for the top spots and point contenders going at it deep in the field. Rookie Travis Roland squeezed his Chevy into second at the finish followed by Chuck Steele, David Williamson and Larry Chumney. Michael King continues to hold the point advantage in the season championship battle. Lee Davis led the charge to the finish line in the Modified Mini Stock 25 lap feature. Jay Kaminski finished second in his mini pickup truck followed by Kevin Boykin, Kenny Uhl and point leader Randy Storer. The top ten in points changed only slightly with Kevin Boykin moving into the tenth spot by virtue of his third place feature finish. The Pure Stock divisions were assigned to run the road course for their 15 lap feature events. The addition of the right hand turn through one half of the infield crossover created a different obstacle for the drivers but most were able to adapt quickly. Kim Scheffler-Hays took home the win in the V8 Pure Stock feature with Randy King and James Wright second and third respectively. In the 4 Cylinder Pure Stock division Hubert Baker jumped out front and ran away with the win over Billy Standridge and Matthew Craig. The Racing for Kids Club was in competition with Burt Morse taking the win in the Senior division and Richie Acres winning in the junior division. Racing action for this coming Saturday night will showcase the Florida Legends Series as they make their final visit to the quarter mile oval for 1997. The Pro Figure 8 cars will also compete through the infield crossover. The special Grudge Match between lady V8 Pure Stock driver Kim Scheffler-Hays and WB 32 personality Haywood Henson will also take place with the two drivers going one on one in legend cars. Following the match race Hays and Henson will accept donations in the grandstands to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. The remaining schedule for September has the Late Model Sportsman division in action on the 20th in the Budwieser 50. The 27th will highlight the Pro Figure 8 cars along with the Super Mini Cup machines. 1996 Mini Stock Rookie of the Year Keith Roggen will make his NASCAR Goody's Dash Series debut on October 4th at the USA International Speedway. Roggen will join area drivers Edward Howell and George Crenshaw in the Discount Auto Parts 150.
