Auburndale, FL- Starting from the outside of the front row, Robbie Storer won the race to the first turn and led the entire 25 laps of the Late Model Sportsman feature Saturday night at the Auburndale Speedway. Tommy Chism challenged the unsponsored Storer several times during the event but could not get a run at the new father to be. Last weeks feature winner Jeff McCaw was third followed by Jimmy Castleberry and point leader Ray Cuzzone. Richard Todd and Don Carroll ran third and fourth during the first half of the event until they tangled in turn one on lap 12. Both would move to the tail of the pack for the restart but could not move back to the front. Walt King made it a sweep of heat race and feature action in the Street Stock division. After winning his heat, King jumped out front on the start and led every lap of the 25 lap feature. Side by side action for second allowed King to hold an advantage over the field for much of the event. During the closing stages Jason Bennett reeled in the number 75 but could not mount a challenge. Bennett followed King to the line with Travis Roland, Larry Chumney and Jeff Rodgers rounding out the top five. The Modified Mini Stocks saw Lee Davis post yet another win as he tries to narrow the margin in the point standings between himself and Randy Storer. Eugene Davidson finished second five car lengths behind. Donnie Howell posted his best run of the year with a third place finish followed by Dave Farina and James Wood. Early race leader Chris Spring slid back to tenth as he fought an ill handling race car during the feature. Randy King dominated the 15 lap V8 Pure Stock feature and also won his heat race earlier in the night. Bob Gorsuch and Daniel Sasnett were second and third. The two contenders for the points championship came into the night with Kim Scheffler-Hays leading James Wright III by six points. Hays was able to finish fourth in the feature after a second place run in the heats. Wright managed a fifth place run in the feature after breaking a right rear axle during his heat race. 16 points now separate the two with three race nights remaining in the season. Hugh Williams jumped out front early and led the 4 Cylinder to the finish line in the 15 lap feature. Hubert Baker moved up into the second spot and challenged Williams on the outside several times. Williams was able to maintain the advantage and the faster line to lead at the stripe. Baker finished second followed by Ken Murtauth, Richie Owens and Chris Kingham. Racing action shifts from Saturday night to Friday night this weekend only as a big Halloween Special is planned. All divisions will be in action along with the Super Mini Cup cars and a Ladies Powder Puff. The kids are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes for a costume contest and Kid's rides will also take place during intermission. The shift in nights is due to the final Hooters Cup event of the season, which will be held on Saturday night November 1st at USA International Speedway. Racing will resume on Saturday nights on November 8th and the season will conclude on November 22nd.
