SCHOONOVER DOMINATES LATE MODEL, BASS AND BENNETT TAKE STREET STOCK.

Auburndale, FL- Keith Schoonover dominated Late model action tonight, while Westley Bass and Jason Bennett each won one of the Twin Street Stock features. Other winners included Shawn Williams (Modified Mini Stock), Tim Ward (Pure Stock 4 Cylinder), and Bob Gorsuch (Pure Stock V-8).

Keith Schoonover drove the Fastec Performance Warehouse Chevrolet to victory in both the Late Model heat race and feature tonight. Schoonover started on the pole for the feature and led flag to flag, holding off a determined Billy Jones in his Towerview Auto Mall Pontiac at the finish. Richard Scruggs grabbed third with his Blair Homes entry, while Von Pope's Seacoast Pontiac was fourth, and the WPCV 97 Country Pontiac, driven by Ray Cuzzone, took fifth.

Two 25 lap Street Stock Features were contested this evening, with Westley Bass and Jason Bennett each picking up a win.

The first Street Stock Feature saw a wild battle at the front for nearly the entire 25 laps, as Bass and Fast Qualifier Ron Lofquist raced side by side and bumper to bumper. Bass managed to survive a mid-race incident in which he made contact with the lapped car of Shawn Harper and damaged his cars front end. With the front third of his cars hood flapping in the breeze, Bass was first at the stripe in his Blackburn & Sons/Citgo Monte Carlo, with Lofquist second by a car length. Travis Roland was third at the checkers, followed by fourth place Michael King, and David Roberts in fifth.

The second Street Stock Feature proved to be a clinic on restarts and Jason Bennett seems to have his restart technique perfected. Bennett drove his Southern Concrete Oldsmobile to victory lane, with second place Robert Hight a car length behind after 25 laps on the quarter mile speedway. Jeff Warren battled from the back of the pack to third, with Larry Chumney in fourth, and Fast Qualifier Ron Lofquist, using a daring last lap pass, took fifth.

Modified Mini Stock action featured lots of great racing as usual. The Apex Mortgage Ford of Shawn Williams won the 25 lap feature, while hard charging Kenny Uhl came from near the the back of the 26 car field to place second in his Bob Uhl Mobile Homes Dodge. Jay Kaminski recovered from an early race incident to take third, with Marlon Lynn fourth, and Eugene Davidson in fifth. Heat race wins in Modified Mini Stock went to Uhl and Kaminski.

Tim Ward was the class of the field in Pure Stock 4 Cylinder, taking his Dodge to wins in his heat race and the feature. Matthew Craig was right on Ward's bumper at the end of the 15 lap feature for second, and Doug Brown charged under the checkers in third. David McCaulley finished in fourth place, and Michael Seeright came home fifth. McCaulley also won his heat race earlier in the evening.

Pure Stock V-8 action was fast and furious, with Bob Gorsuch winning the feature battle. Heat race winner David Davis was a close second at the stripe, with Donnie Harp on his bumper in third. Craig Corbin finished fourth, and Jason Helton rounded out the top 5 in the 15 lap feature.

Next week, Auburndale Speedway presents an Easter Special with Kid's Club racing, along with Late Models, Street Stocks, Modified Mini Stocks, Pure Stock 4 Cylinders, and Pure Stock V-8's.
