Auburndale, FL -— The Southern Pro Truck Series made their first ever visit to the Auburndale Speedway Saturday night with Butch Yoakum snatching the win from Ron McCreary in the closing stages. The 50 lap feature ground forty laps onto the scoreboard before the action really heated up. Top qualifier Butch Yoakum had worked his way into the lead when Ron McCreary caught the series point leader in traffic. Using a lapped car McCreary dove to the inside and took command until the caution was waved one lap later.

On the restart McCreary led Yoakum down to turn three where Yoakum dove to the inside and wrestled the lead from McCreary. Yoakum motored on to the win with McCreary two car lengths behind at the finish. Jimmie Best finished third followed by Sonny Houghes and Fred Wagner.

Robbie Storer won the 25 lap Late Model Sportsman feature over Richard Elkins and Von Pope. The trio slipped by early leader Eddie King on the bottom side of the racetrack and motored to the finish line nosed to tail. An early race crash in turn one brought problems for defending champion Ray Cuzzone along with Thomas Poff and Ollie Harbin. Harbin was able to continue but Cuzzone and Poff had to park their machines for the night. Completing the top five were Steve Treager and Keith Schoonover.

Steve Ware went wire to wire in the 25 lap Street Stock feature with Mike Harrison giving chase to the checkers. The event was slowed for several cautions including a t-bone crash in turn two with Westley Bass and Mitch Hawk Jr. involved. Hawk was forced to retire while Bass was able to continue, posting a thirteenth place finish in the field of 26 starters. Michael Kin Robert Gullett and Travis Roland rounded out the top five.

The 25 lap Modified Mini Stock feature was won by Kenny Uhl after starting mid-pack. Several drivers hope they have turned their season around with good finishes. Pops Weatherford posted his best finish of the season with a second place run and Eugene Davidson brought his Dodge home third. Donnie Howell also enjoyed a good night after posting fourth followed by defending champion Randy Storer.

Willie Lacey took the V8 Pure Stock feature followed by Bob Gorsuch and Donnie Harp.

Wayne Weaver dominated the 4 Cylinder Pure Stock feature by posting the win over Chris Kingham and Scott Taylor.

Racing action continues this Saturday night May 2 with the running of the Budweiser 100 for the Limited Late Model Sportsman cars. All other divisions will also be in action. Gates open at 5:00 P.M. with qualifying at 6:30 and racing at 7:00.
