NSW Late Model Drivers' final hitout before Farmers Union Fireball

The New South Wales Late Model fraternity had their final hitout at Parramatta City Raceway last night under trying conditions prior to trekking South West to Adelaide for the Farmers Union Fireball Derby this Saturday night at Adelaide's Speedway City.

A 37 Celsius (99 Fahrenheit) day in blazing sunlight saw Parramatta City Raceway's clay surface turn incredibly slick and dusty, with many drivers having trouble getting a handle on the tricky conditions -- certainly unable to use much of the 800 horsepower they have on tap.

The East Coast Late Model Association was pleased to welcome West Australian Rob McGregor to PCR, who detoured to Sydney on his way to Adelaide (!), however he was unable to dial a suitable setup into the Supatilt Transport Monte Carlo in the difficult conditions and will be hoping for better come the weekend. ELMA was also pleased to welcome Steven 'G-Force' Jones into the fold, the Novocastrian winning the opening heat in his distinctive purple G-Force chassis.

Michael Hebditch once again proved to be a standout performer. Hebditch won a heat and put in a sterling effort to come from behind to take the feature event on the final lap. Kevin Stevens lead the entire main event distance, experimenting with a line above the cushion that was working particularly well, however Hebditch came on strong in the latter part of the race and snuck underneath him to take the win, no doubt a strong confidence boost ahead of the weekend.

Third was Scott McPherson, unable to feel comfortable on the track, nor put in one of his blinding highline runs, mainly, according to the Canberran, due to preparations for this weekend. "I was really trying to conserve tonight so that we didn't have any damage done to the car before the Farmers Union Fireball Derby," he said. "We spent much of the night trialing setups for Speedway City, however I'm not sure, given the track conditions here, how relevant they will actually be."

Lyle Dicker put in one of his best performances of the season, in the newly re-bodied Grizzly Dyno Shocks car, whilst Kieran Dal-Maso, in the Hess Building/KDM car was out of sorts, spinning on numerous occasions, so too Bruce Mackenzie, who was sitting in second place in the feature, before spinning in front of the field, thankfully all were able to avoid the Venom Racing/TimeTarget Monte Carlo. Bruce White was another to impress, whilst Brian Dunn put in a conservative performance in his car, also preparing for the Fireball.
